- Thoughts on Technology and life...
Reason :: Do not buy from Ankit infotech
Ankit infotech is a somewhat famous shop on SP Road. I recently had a very bad experience buying from this shop. In short - the treatment you get when you are buying something has no correlation with the treatment you get when you need repair or replacement!
I bought an Antec cabinet - the P182, 2 x 2 GB Transcend memory, 500 GB Segate hard disk and a Sony DVD writer from this guy. Of these, the DVD writer did not work. It did not work since the first time I plugged it in - wouldn't read a thing. So I called up the Ankit infotech person - Dinesh. He claimed that his service centre was closed on that day and I should go on any day after Monday and get a replacement.
When I went to the shop, the next Wednesday, they pointed me to their service station. This place is a cramped place that looks like a prison interrogation room. I was made to wait for what seemed like 30 minutes there. After the wait the fellow there took the writer, shook it a couple of times and then claimed that something was broken inside and was moving. Hence, he suggested, I should go back to the counter and get it replaced. So I went. This time these guys wouldn't look at me for another 15 minutes. They behaved as though they were doing me a favour by even talking to me. After this wait, Dinesh asked me to follow some random guy carrying cartons around and he would show me where to go next. So I did. This fellow pointed me to some nondescript building which looked like it could be someone's house. Turns out that the Sony DVD writer reseller was operating from here. This fellow treated me courteously, but made me wait another half an hour nonetheless. Eventually, some tech guy there looks at the drive, cracks it open and says it can't be repaired, either leave it with him for couple of days or ask Ankit to replace it since it is well within warranty. This place, by the way, is not very close to Ankit. So I call up Dinesh. He picks it up, but is speaking to someone else in the shop. After couple of minutes he speaks into the phone and says something to the effect that he cannot replace the drive. When I try to explain to him the what the reseller is saying, he hands over the phone to someone else who says that Dinesh is having his food and cannot speak!
So I take the drive and head back to the shop. I confront Dinesh and ask him why am I being made to run around when the damn thing is practically brand new and refuses to work (it was barely 5 days out of the shop!) he claims that there is nothing he can do and warranty is manufacturer's problem! Eventually he takes the drive, gives me a slip saying I have given it to him, and asks me to collect it four working days later. Of course, all the while behaving like he is doing a great favour to me.
So, my suggestion is, unless you are very sure that the product you buy from this guy will never fail and you'll never need to use warranty, DO NOT BUY from Ankit infotech. If you find this information useful, please link back this page with Ankit infotech in the link text so that search engines will pick up the story.
Addendum: Ankit's prices are always a tad higher than the market. I used to think the premium Ankit charged was for the expected better service he would provide! For example, I paid 1,300 + taxes for the DVD writer, while the same DVD writer was being sold at 1,160 + taxes at computer warehouse. Of course, in retrospect, it was a terrible mistake to have foregone the opportunity to buy it from computer warehouse, whose employees have always been courteous and helpful to me in the past.

1. @rajesh: Ankit is among the worst.
I am not sure if you are using my name to confuse people or if you are doing this with some hidden agenda. Nevertheless, have you ever had to replace anything that Ankit sold you? I for one, will definitely disagree with your assertion that Ankit is the best shop in SP road. In my opinion it is among the worst.

How many times have you had to replace anything? I too thought they were good as long as none of the things I bought from them broke. Electronic Gadgets have very high reliability and will rarely fail. But when they do - true colors of Ankit are on display.

I didnt know that these guys were bad. That is also why I am publishing this so that others may
avoid them.
I could not assemble things there because all these were accessories that were going into my
current computer.

Maybe Surabhi is a good guy, I dont know. But you cannot say you never had a problem, since you've never shopped at Ankit and needed a replacement.

7. ankit and golcha are the worst dealers on sp road
Rajesh the problem you faced is not different from any shop in sp road, these marwari act like mafia. most of the times when i purchase or assemble computer i find one or the other parts will not work first time and have to go to them another time for replacement. always when you buy computer parts from sp road try to get it assembled with them and check everything is working

8. I Never faced any problem.....
I had different experience, mind you it was not Ankit Info but never the less it was Surabhi Comp.
in SP road.
I assembled a computer for my friend, I got all the components from Surabhi Computer. When I
finished assembling the computer in his house, computer wouldn't start. I found out that SMPS was
the problem. I called the guy from Surabhi Comp. He said get the entire CPU and also he requested me
not to come one weekends( I guess most of the computer vendors follow the same thing). I took the
CPU on Monday. Had to wait for quite some time but then once he got time he checked and replaced the
SMPS in no time. Total time spent in SP road was 1 hr.
But I do agree that, its always better to get computer parts from a known and more settled
place like COmputer Warehouse.
